Calcium Hydride Powder, CaH2

Properties of calcium hydride
Chinese name: calcium hydride
Calcium-hydride
Molecular formula: CaH2
Melting point: 675 ℃
Density: 1.7 (relative density water =1)
Calcium hydride, a common chemical, is found in CaH2, with a molecular weight of
42.10. Gray-white crystals or lumps, easily deliriable, used as reducing agent, desiccant,
chemical analysis reagent, etc. It is also a colorless rhombic crystal. Industrial products
are gray, orthorhombic or powder. Sensitive to moisture. It does not react with dry air,
nitrogen and chlorine at room temperature, but reacts with the above gases at high
temperature to produce calcium oxide, calcium nitrous oxide and calcium chloride,
respectively. It can also react with ethanol to produce hydrogen and calcium ethanol.
The reduction of metal oxides is stronger than that of sodium hydride or lithium hydride.
USES of calcium hydride
Used in powder metallurgy, when heated to 600 ~ 1000℃, can be reduced with zirconium,
niobium, hafnium and other metal oxides, and the corresponding metal powder. It can
be used as portable hydrogen generator, reducing agent, desiccant, analytical reagent.
